Age
The easiest way to tell if your ductless system is nearing the end of its life is to look at its age. Most of the problems that cause a ductless system to break down are the direct result of wear and tear, which is the result of years of normal use. Once your ductless system gets older than around 20 years, it will likely be more expensive to keep it running than to just replace it.
Rise in Repairs
Typically, you shouldn’t need repairs for your ductless system more than once every couple of years. As a system gets older, though, the various parts that make up the system start to wear down. As each part wears down at a different rate, you may have parts start to fail in rapid succession. If you need to have your ductless system repaired every few months, save yourself some trouble and replace it now.
Drop in Efficiency
The same wear and tear that causes a rise in repairs causes a drop in efficiency in the system. The less efficient the system is, the longer it has to stay on and the more it will cost to operate. If your system’s operating cost is rising for no apparent reason, it may be time to replace it.
