Ductless mini split systems are a great way to both heat and cool your home. Just like all other systems, however, they will occasionally develop issues that require professional repair. It is very important that you learn to recognize when these problems develop, so that you can have them repaired as soon as possible. With that in mind, take a look at these signs that your ductless system need repairs.
Leaking Fluids
Leaking fluids aren’t a good sign for any system that uses refrigerant. Refrigerant is the fluid responsible for absorbing heat from one space and releasing it in another. Without it, your ductless system wouldn’t be much more than a fan. If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it can quickly drain the entire system of refrigerant that it needs to function. If you see your ductless system leaking fluids, call a professional right away.
Icing Over
If you see ice forming on your ductless system, it’s probably coming from your evaporator coil. When the evaporator coil isn’t kept clean, it can malfunction and freeze the condensate that forms on it during operation. This causes the coil to ice over, which prevents it from absorbing the heat from your indoor air. If the ice is not removed quickly, the weight of it will permanently warp the coil. At that point, the entire coil will need to be replaced in order to return the ductless system to proper function. If you see ice forming on your ductless system, or if you notice that it isn’t blowing as much cold air as it should, call a professional.
