Zoning

Zoning Makes Your Home More Comfortable to Live

Do you have rooms in your house that are too warm while others are too cold?  Do you have to set the thermostat to “frigid” so your upstairs isn’t boiling or overheat the 2nd floor just so you can have dinner in comfort?  If so, a zoning system may be the perfect solution for you.  With a zoned system, a Shavitz technician will install a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th!) thermostat in your home that will control the temperature in that specific area of your home.  The thermostat will automatically operate the furnace and a set of motorized dampers to send heating or air conditioning only to the rooms/zones that need it. Imagine never thinking about the temperature around you because you’re always perfectly comfortable. Bedrooms are refreshingly cool for sleeping. The kitchen isn’t stifling hot. The den is completely cozy. Zoning gives you the control you need to enjoy perfect comfort.

Zone for Comfort

Heating and Air Conditioning contractors have known for years that proper thermostat location is critical to achieving comfort. Yet, with today’s home designs it’s almost impossible to find a single location for the thermostat where the temperature it senses is truly representative of the whole house.

Open stairways, vaulted ceilings, multiple levels, lots of windows, and amenities such as hot tubs or indoor pools all make ordinary heating and cooling system controls inadequate for maximum comfort.

Zone for Convenience

If you can recall “jiggling” the thermostat up and down, opening and closing the registers or opening and closing windows in an attempt to feel comfortable, you already know how uncomfortable an unzoned home can be. With zoning, conditioned air is delivered exactly when and where it’s needed.

Zone for Energy Savings

Most people zone for the comfort benefits. For example, If you sleep upstairs, you don’t have to pay as much to heat the downstairs at night or vice versa.  You don’t have a single switch that turns on every light in the entire house, you have light switches in every room to save on electricity and wear and tear of the equipment.  With a zoning system you can do the same thing to get the ultimate in home comfort. The long range value of a zoned system outweighs the initial investment:

  • Zoning systems can be installed on boilers systems.
  • Zoning allows you to heat or cool only the zones that need it, not the whole house. Without zoning, when the thermostat is adjusted to make one part of the house more comfortable, the whole house is heated or cooled. That wastes fuel and may cause the system to overheat or overcool the rest of the house.
  • Zoning lets you reduce equipment size or even eliminate a second or third system in some houses.
  • Zoning increases your comfort and adds to the long-term resale value of your home.
  • Energy savings from setback thermostats can quickly pay for the additional costs of zoning.
