Avoid Common Ductless System Issues

With spring upon us and summer following shortly behind, we can’t ignore the fact that it’s almost time to start using our air conditioners again. Hopefully, you’ve taken the time to schedule your ductless system maintenance appointment already, although it’s not too late to do so if you haven’t.

Ductless mini-split systems are very efficient and highly durable. However, just like any other HVAC system, they do run into problems every now and then. One of the leading reasons for this is lack of maintenance, but this is not the only issue that can occur. We’ve shared some of the most common ductless issues below.

Human Error

One of the most common problems we hear about when people use their ductless cooling system is that it is not effectively cooling their home. It’s important, however, to ensure that no windows in the home have been left open. Even the smallest opening can lead to drafts, which causes your ductless system to work harder than it should have to, decreasing its performing power and costing you more to run.

Refrigerant Leaks

When your ductless cooling is installed, it is supplied with enough refrigerant to last its entire lifespan. However, sometimes damage does occur that will allow for a refrigerant leak. When this happens, you’ll find that your ductless system is unable to keep up with the cooling demands you place on it.

Improper Drainage

When condensation is unable to drain appropriately, then your air conditioner is going to suffer. This is particularly true in humid climates such as our, where moist air is more likely to condense and collect on cooler surfaces. One way to prevent drainage issues is to ensure that your ductless system is installed level to the ground.23
