Why It’s Never Too Late for an AC Tune-up

Fall is just around the corner – weeks away in fact. Does that mean it’s too late in the season for an AC tune-up? Never! An AC tune-up is always a good idea, no matter the time of year. Prioritizing AC maintenance is a great way to ensure that your unit is running at peak condition year round.

And in fact, the end of summer is an especially good time to schedule an AC maintenance appointment because your unit has been working hard all summer long. Soon your HVAC will be working equally hard to warm your home in the winter, and you want it to do that job well. So if you think you need an AC tune-up, our team can help.

Prioritizing Annual Maintenance

If your AC unit is working without a hitch, maintenance may not be on your mind. But don’t wait until something very obviously goes wrong to address AC issues. Small tweaks to your system can benefit you in a number of ways by:

  • Preventing more serious damage
  • Improving AC efficiency
  • Saving on energy bills
  • Extending the life of your HVAC unit

If you really want to take care of your unit, you should schedule checkups twice per year – especially if you have a heat pump. Otherwise, once a year will suffice. But why exactly is this maintenance so important? You understand the benefits, but you also need to understand why your unit needs maintenance so much.

No Breaks During Summer

When it’s the hottest outside, you want to be cool inside. You want to come home from work and feel the cool air from the inside envelope you as you open the door. Because of this, your AC is working overtime. Even though the heat is outside, very little insulates it from coming in. Cracks under doors and around windows allow the heat to creep inside. Your AC has to cool your home around the clock in the peak of summer without a break for the components to rest.

Losing Efficiency

Each year older means more efficiency lost for your AC unit. Your parts wear down slowly, and it doesn’t happen suddenly after years of use. It starts as soon as you turn your unit on for the first time. Each year without an AC tune-up costs you 5% in efficiency. The percentage grows with each passing year. And lost efficiency doesn’t just make it harder for your unit to cool or heat your home. It also costs you more on your energy bill.

Prevent Breakdowns

There’s always the possibility that something will go wrong with your AC unit. But investing in annual or biannual AC maintenance can greatly reduce the chances of a surprise breakdown. That means you may not have to come home one day to learn that your house is 90 degrees because the AC went out ten minutes after you left for the day. It also means you don’t have to wait for a repair appointment.
