Why Boilers Are Still Great Radiant Heating Systems

Boilers don’t get as much love lately as they deserve. These unique radiant heat systems are excellent at providing fast and efficient heat across your entire home. However, since they are very difficult to install, not many homeowners turn to a boiler for a new heater installation.

If you’re interested in boiler installation in Winnetka, give our team a call. We would be happy to visit your home and talk about how a boiler would be installed and set up. You can also keep reading to learn more about the many benefits of having a boiler as a heating system in your home.

How Does a Boiler Work?

Most heaters use air to transfer heat into your home. A boiler is different because it uses water to transfer heat. There are pipes installed under the floors or in the walls of your home. Those pipes connect to your boiler, where water is heated and then transferred throughout your home to warm it up. That water then returns to the boiler and heats up again for the next heating cycle.

Boiler Efficiency

Boilers are considered highly energy efficient because water is such a good conductor of heat. This is especially true compared to air source heaters. It’s easy for heat to get trapped in ductwork or for the temperature of the air to lower before reaching your home. With a boiler, heat radiates out of the pipes and into your home as a way of increasing the temperature.

Plus, even after the water returns to the boiler, the pipes remain hot and continue to radiate heat in between cycles. Since boilers are more efficient, they can heat your home faster and more effectively and may even cost less on your monthly energy bills as a result.

The Low Maintenance Choice

Like other HVAC systems, a boiler does still require that you schedule an annual maintenance appointment. It’s a great way to stay ahead of any potential issues for your boiler. But when we complete maintenance appointments for other types of heaters, we often have a variety of tasks that we need to complete.

That is not true when it comes to boilers. Boilers need much less maintenance compared to other types of heating systems. They are built to be very sturdy and secure and don’t have as many moving parts that can break.

Installation Considerations

The biggest downside to a boiler is that they are more difficult to install. If you’re not going through a home remodel or purchasing land to build your own home, it may not make sense to install a boiler. A lot of demolition is involved in installing the pipes throughout your home for radiant heating. But if you do plan to build a new home or have a remodel scheduled for your house, those two opportunities are a great time to consider installing a boiler.
