Why Ductless Air Conditioning Is More Energy Efficient Than Central AC

Central air conditioning systems are a great way to keep your home cool. They’re certainly a better option than just opening a window or turning on a fan. However, they have their share of weaknesses. One of those weaknesses is that they are unable to modulate their output. An air conditioner has two settings: on or off. It cannot change how much cool air it direct to each room, which means it cannot compensate for differences in insulation across the house. Fortunately, there’s an answer to this weakness and others in the form of ductless air conditioning. Read on to find out why ductless air conditioning is more energy efficient than central air conditioning.

Individual Air Handlers

Ductless air conditioner systems are comprised of individual air handlers, one of which is installed in each room that the air conditioner serves. Each of these air handlers is outfitted with its own thermostat, which controls it independently from all other air handlers. This allows you to change how much cool air each room receives, which eliminates hot and cold spots in your house. With ductless air conditioning, you can always make sure that each room is as comfortable as possible.

The ability to modulate output for each room also means that you can leave parts of the house unconditioned when not in use. If you are only using the living room, you can cool that one space without wasting energy on rooms that are empty. This is the biggest advantage in terms of energy savings, because you can remain comfortable without spending enough money to cool the entire house.
