Signs That You Need a New Boiler

Boilers have a reputation for lasting a long time, even compared to other traditional heating systems. This is because they have fewer moving parts, which means fewer ways for something to go wrong. Despite this longevity, boilers don’t last forever. If your boiler is nearing the end of its life, it behooves you to be able to recognize the signs. You don’t want your heating system dying on you in the middle of winter, after all. Read on for some of the signs that you need a new boiler.

Extreme Age

Boilers are built to last between 25 and 30 years. You can keep yours running for quite a long time after that point, if you’re willing to spend enough money, but it will be far cheaper just to install a new system. If your boiler is older than 25 years, you should talk to a technician about replacing the system.

Energy Inefficiency

As a boiler gets older, the accumulation of wear and tear causes the efficiency of the system to drop. As the boiler gets less and less efficient, it has to remain running for longer to compensate. This leads to higher heating bills. If your boiler seems to be costing more and more money to operate, you should think about schedule a replacement.

Repairs Become More Frequent

Normally, a boiler should not need repairs more than once every few years. In an older boiler, though, the wear on the various parts of the system make it far more likely for it to break down. If your boiler seems to have need for repairs every few months, then it is definitely time to replace it.

If your boiler seems like it needs to be replaced, call Shavitz Heating and Air Conditioning. We offer a full range of boiler services throughout Chicago, IL.
