Beware These Ominous Sounds Coming from Your AC

Have you heard a strange sound coming from your air conditioner lately? Of course no air conditioner is ever going to be completely silent, but you know the typical sounds your system makes better than anyone else does. Therefore when something seems unusual or unfamiliar, chances are that something is wrong.

Odd air conditioning sounds usually mean that there is an issue that needs to be resolved right away. Keep reading to learn about just a couple of the most common air conditioning noises that indicate it’s time for you to call one of our HVAC professionals.

Hissing/Bubbling

If you’ve noticed a hissing or bubbling sound coming from your cooling system, it’s most likely the result of air bubbles existing within your refrigerant line. This only happens when you have a leak along the refrigerant line, which is not normal and needs to be repaired right away to avoid a decline in the output of your AC system.

Never ignore this sound, as doing so can result in the premature breakdown of your air conditioning system. As soon as you hear this ominous noise, you’ll need to shut your system off to prevent further damage, and then call for repairs. Your refrigerant will need to be refilled and the leak sealed to prevent this from occurring again.

Grinding

One of the numerous components housed within your AC system is the air handler. This component works by moving air through your home during its operation. The air handler is comprised of a large motor, which has a fan attached to it. When it operates, a large amount of strain is put on the air handlers, and therefore the motor and fan have a series of lubricated bearings to help them do their jobs.

These bearings are vital in assisting your air handler so that it operates smoothly. This also helps your AC system work better overall. However, just like any other appliance, over time it will wear down. As a result, the friction on the air handler increases and produces a loud grinding noise. As soon as you hear this noise it’s important to call for us for repairs.
